Skincare Basics: Skincare Products
February 11, 2016
Hello lovelies!
I'm back with another Skin Care Basics post, if you're interested, do check out my post about the types of skin and the layers and functioning of skin for a better understanding of how your skin works.
To know which skin care products are good for you and are better suited for your skin you must know about your skin and the types of products available in the market to make it less confusing for yourself when you're bombarded with advertisements of skincare products.
Popular Skincare Products
- Facial Washes
These are lathered up with water and applied to the face to dissolve dirt, grime and makeup. Facial washes are best suited for people who have an oily/greasy skin to normal skin. - Cleansing Bars
These are refreshing for people who have extremely oily skin. It cleans pores and helps avoid pimples. - Cream Cleansers
They are best suited for people that dry skin as they contain oil to dissolve surface dirt and makeup without drying out the skin and irritating it. - Toners and Astringents
Although these terms are used interchangeably, there is a difference between toners and astringents:
i) Toner
A toner contains less amount of alcohol
ii) Astringent
An astringent contains high amount of alcohol and should be used by people that have oily skin.
Both toners and astringents help refresh and cool down your skin and clean excess oil from the surface of your skin.
People with dry skin should avoid these like the plague. - Moisturizers or Facial Creams
They prevent loss of moisture and water from the top layers of the skin and make it feel softer and smoother.
Most people with oily skin avoid using moisturizers, which is wrong since your sebaceous glands then star over compensating for the lack of moisture by secreting more sebum and making your skin oiler. Always moisturize your skin after washing it. - Eye makeup removers
These are specially designed to remove makeup from the eyes as other makeup removers might be too harsh for the sensitive eye area. - Night Creams
They are extra moisturizing and pamper your skin while you are asleep.
I hope this post gives you better insight about what products you should use.

Very helpful post! I didn't really know the difference between toners and astringents so thankyou for that, I've been using toners for a long time, I guess I need to move to astringents then coz of my oily skin.
ReplyDeleteDo make sure that the astringent doesn't irritate your skin or dry it out way too much
DeleteI love a good skincare regime. I suffer from dry skin so really try my best to keep my skin well balanced
ReplyDeleteYou should always carry a moisturizer wherever you go!
