How to Take Care of Combination Skin

February 02, 2016

Combination skin is usually a result of a poor skincare routine and is the most common type of skin. It is also the most complicated type of skin to take care of and maintain a routine for. It can be very confusing for people and they usually treat it like one, which is a big mistake.

Combination skin can be of two types:
  1. Dry and Normal
People with this combination skin type have an normal T-zone, (i.e,  an oily forehead, nose and chin) and dry skin on the outer parts of the face.
You need to buy products for normal skin for the T-zone and treat it as normal and buy products for dry skin for the outer parts of the face and treat it as dry skin.
  2. Dry and Greasy
People with this combination skin type have an oily T-zone and have dry patches on the outer parts of the face.
You need to treat the dry skin as dry and buy products for it, and treat oily skin as oily and buy separate products for that.

  1. Cleanse your skin
It is very important to remove dirt, grime and greasiness off your face for flawless skin, and cleansing it helps in that. You should preferably use a foaming facial wash for the oily areas and a cream-based cleanser on the dry areas.
  2. Use an Astringent
An astringent is a product which contains alcohol. Its main task is to remove the dirt that the cleanser might have left behind. You should use a mild and gentle astringent on the greasy areas of the skin to keep it refreshed.
  3. Splash with water
Splashing your face with water is a great way to remove excess cleanser from the dry areas of your face and make feel fresher and as good as new.
  4. Apply Moisturizer
You need to apply a cream-based moisturizer on the dry areas of your face for that soft, supple and elastic skin, but, you also need to moisturize the oily areas of the skin. Always moisturize the greasy areas of the skin with a light, watery moisturizer to seal the water in.
You can press a tissue on the greasy skin after moisturizing it to avoid excess oil and shine.
One must always have a good skincare regime, but this is especially true for the people who have the combination skin type as it is a result of ignorance and sheer laziness
